Let’s all learn about Goniopora together!!!
Of all the species in its genus, Goniopora stutchburyi is the most invocative of Porites, though its polyps are quite small in comparison with the familiar “flower pot coral”. It will develop sweeper polyps in strong water flow, with swollen acrospheres at the tip of each tentacle. Its requirements for care are similar to those of many other small polyp stony (SPS) corals, such as Acropora, Montipora, and the famous Porites. We recommend strong, alternating, or surging flow and medium to high light, though Goniopora is adaptable to many different conditions once it adjusts to captivity.
In our care, Goniopora have a great need for very small foods, such as zooplankton, rotifers, and DTs Oyster Eggs. Phytoplankton added to the tank feeds that tasty zooplankton, which encourages reproduction, including the production of eggs and larvae, the coral’s natural prey. We direct feed regularly and run the Goniopora tanks with fishless refugiums, which produce huge amounts of plankton for the coral to eat.
