The CoralBank.org project is being run out of the Science and Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut by Applied Sustainable Aquaculture Inc. The aim of the Coral Bank is to ensure long term survival of coral genetic diversity by establishing a universal tracking system, to tag and keep track of coral species in captivity. We ensure redundancy in the system by placing specimens in at least 3 or more of participating members aquaria, to protect against catastrophic loss at any one sight. The corals will eventually be made available as seed stock for commercial growers, for research purposes and eventually, with the development of sterile micro-culture techniques, to reseed damaged reefs.
