WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
Applied Sustainable Aquaculture is currently seeking funding and materials for the Integrated Organic Aquaculture System at the Science and Technology Magnet High School of Southeastern Connecticut. The natural systems at the STMHS will serve as a central hub of the Coral Bank system, part of a national effort of marine and environmental scientists to link up and co-ordinate a national coral bank. The bank will serve to preserve the diversity in marine fish, coral, and invertebrates in captivity and make available those organisms to academics, the aquaculture industry, and for future restocking of the reefs. The Science and Technology Magnet High School will be the main interdisciplinary hub of the regional coral bank, bringing together the various scientific disciplines that are required to develop and improve the captive husbandry of reef organisms. From integrated computer monitoring equipment, to the development of sterile coral micro-culture, students can have a real and positive impact, while at the same learning and discovering.
